Blockchain Sportsbooks Bring Transparency to Betting with On-Chain Settlement
In recent years, blockchain-based sportsbooks have emerged as an alternative to traditional betting platforms. These decentralized sportsbooks use smart contracts to record wagers and settlements on-chain, providing a transparent and tamper-proof record of all transactions.
One such platform is Dexsport, which combines a conventional sportsbook interface with blockchain-based betting infrastructure. Its public betting desk records wagers and outcomes on-chain, giving bettors an external record of how a position was resolved. While the settlement itself forms part of the blockchain record, the actual competition data used to settle bets still originates off-chain.
Another example is SX Bet, which approaches sports betting more like a financial exchange. Makers submit orders containing an outcome, stake and desired odds, while takers can take those orders. Once matched, the funds are placed in an escrow smart contract, and when the sporting event finishes, a reporter submits its result on-chain.
There are currently six sports betting platforms where settlement has an on-chain component: Dexsport, SX Bet, Overtime, BetDEX, Jackson Sportsbook, and Steam22. Each of these platforms uses different technologies to achieve on-chain settlement, from smart contracts to decentralized exchange infrastructure.
