Blockchain Transaction Volume Could Soar by 10-100x: Bitwise CIO
Bitwise Asset Management's Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan predicts that blockchain transaction volume could increase by 10 to 100 times over the next few years. This growth is driven by two key factors: the tokenization of traditional financial instruments onto blockchain networks and the rise of AI agents in financial decision-making.
Hougan points out that real-world asset (RWA) tokenization is expanding the utility of blockchain beyond cryptocurrencies into mainstream finance, with 'everything from U.S. Treasuries to stocks' being converted into on-chain products. This trend is expected to generate significantly higher transaction volumes on blockchain platforms.
The combination of RWA tokenization and AI agents could fundamentally increase demand for blockchain infrastructure, making current price levels potentially attractive relative to future usage. Hougan argues that investors may be underestimating the future activity, market potential, and sustainability of crypto-based platforms.
