Blockchain Video Platforms Give Creators New Monetization Options
Three blockchain-based video platforms are giving creators an alternative to YouTube's Partner Program. Odysee, Theta Network, and 3Speak use different token models to compensate content producers.
Odysee originally paid creators in LBRY Credits (LBC) but migrated creator payments to Arweave's AR token via Wander Wallet in July 2026. Ad revenue on the platform averages approximately $1 to $3 RPM, with creator payouts now settled in AR following the migration. Odysee requires no subscriber minimum and no watch hour threshold to begin earning revenue.
Theta Network takes a different approach by compensating viewers who relay video bandwidth to nearby peers using TFUEL tokens. This peer-to-peer delivery model reduces the traditional CDN costs that platforms pass to creators. Theta's EdgeCloud expansion into AI compute may generate additional TFUEL demand beyond video streaming applications.
3Speak distributes Hive blockchain rewards based on community engagement metrics, giving creators full wallet ownership over their earned cryptocurrency tokens. The platform stores video content on IPFS, providing decentralized distribution resistant to takedowns. Creators retain all rewards from the Hive reward pool, making 3Speak's reliance on Hive's token economy a key factor in creator earnings.
