Blockstream Stands Firm Against Liquid Network Hackers Demanding Ransom

Blockstream has declared its firm stance against hackers demanding ransom for approximately 598.5 BTC retained after the Liquid Network breach.

The security incident occurred on September 6, 2026, when nearly 4,000 BTC was extracted from the federation wallet belonging to Liquid by individuals identifying as 'whitehats.'

Following Blockstream's deployment of security patches, attackers reimbursed 3,400 BTC, representing approximately 85% of the originally withdrawn funds.

The remaining balance of 598.5 BTC still under attacker control was valued at around $47 million at the time of partial reimbursement.
