Blockstream Unveils Blockstream Swaps for Seamless Bitcoin Cross-Layer Transfers
Blockstream has rolled out its new backup system for Bitcoin cross-layer swaps called Blockstream Swaps. This service allows users to move funds seamlessly across the Bitcoin mainchain, Lightning Network, and Liquid Network without relying on a single point of failure.
The launch comes exactly one week after Boltz, the leading swap provider linking Lightning and Liquid, suspended operations due to AI-directed attacks. Although no user funds were lost in the incident, it highlighted the structural weakness of the Bitcoin ecosystem's reliance on a single provider for cross-layer swaps.
Blockstream Swaps is built on HTLC-based atomic swap mechanisms, which guarantee that a trade either completes fully or doesn't happen at all, ensuring trustless transactions. The service supports submarine swaps converting BTC to LBTC via Lightning and connects all three layers of Bitcoin's ecosystem.
