Blockstream Unveils Swaps Service Amid Boltz Outage
Blockstream has released Blockstream Swaps, a new service that enables seamless fund movement across Bitcoin's mainchain, Lightning Network, and Liquid Network. The launch comes exactly one week after Boltz, the leading swap provider linking Lightning and Liquid, suspended operations due to AI-directed attacks.
No user funds were compromised during the attack, thanks to Boltz's self-custodial architecture. Blockstream Swaps runs on HTLC-based atomic swaps, a trustless mechanism that returns funds automatically if a transaction fails.
The service is built on Lightning-Liquid atomic swaps launched by Blockstream in December 2025 and supports submarine swaps converting BTC to LBTC via Lightning. Blockstream's strategic positioning emphasizes the new product as complementary to existing swap infrastructure, rather than a replacement for it.
