BNB Chain Overtakes Solana in DeFi TVL, Closing In on Ethereum's Lead
BNB Chain has surpassed Solana to become the second-largest blockchain network by total value locked in decentralized finance (DeFi), according to on-chain data from September 14. The Binance-linked network now holds $5.94 billion in DeFi TVL, narrowly edging out Solana's $5.89 billion.
The shift in rankings highlights accelerating user engagement across BNB Chain's DeFi ecosystem, even as Ethereum maintains a commanding lead with $49.95 billion locked. The gap between Ethereum and BNB Chain is roughly $44 billion, illustrating just how far any challenger must travel before seriously threatening Ethereum's position at the top.
Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao acknowledged the milestone in a social media post, welcoming BNB Chain's progress over Solana but cautioning that overtaking Ethereum is a 'long road'. Zhao also emphasized the importance of ecosystem development over rivalry, encouraging developers and users to view the shift as motivation to build stronger products and applications on BNB Chain.
