BNB Chain's BEP-675 Upgrade Shatters Testnet Throughput Barriers
BNB Chain has successfully implemented an upgrade to its BSC Testnet called BEP-675, resulting in an impressive 88% boost in throughput. The new mechanism allows block builders to submit fully executed blocks directly to validators, eliminating a redundant re-execution step that previously consumed significant resources.
The upgrade, which was first proposed on April 10 and deployed on testnet roughly four months later, has shown dramatic performance gains. Critical path validator execution time dropped from approximately 125ms to just 15ms, freeing up headroom for higher gas utilization. Median gas usage per block jumped from 29.49M to 98.99M.
The testing setup involved an internal cross-region QANet setup designed to mirror the actual mainnet topology. The results suggest that the upgrade could potentially double mainnet throughput, with a longer-term goal of achieving 10x improvements over current baseline performance. BNB Chain aims to deploy the upgrade on mainnet and continue to enhance its scalability.
