BNB Chain's Pasteur Hard Fork Live: Boosting Efficiency and Security
BNB Chain has successfully implemented its latest hard fork, 'Pasteur,' which aims to improve processing efficiency and strengthen security for bridges, staking, and governance. This upgrade is part of BNB Chain's ongoing efforts to enhance the performance and stability of its mainnet, BSC.
The Pasteur hard fork does not reduce block generation time, which remains at 0.45 seconds. Instead, it focuses on optimizing the use of this time by introducing a new block submission route that reduces duplicate transaction processing during block creation.
According to internal testing on QANet, an environment similar to BNB Chain's mainnet, the upgrade achieved significant improvements in throughput and efficiency. The results show a 125-millisecond reduction in validator processing time and an 88% increase in transactions per second (TPS) from 1,237 TPS to 2,324 TPS.
Additionally, the Pasteur hard fork includes security enhancements through BEP-682 and BEP-695. These proposals strengthen cross-chain bridge validation and update consensus key management, respectively. BNB Chain plans to further improve network performance by targeting a two-fold increase in BSC mainnet throughput by the end of 2026.
