BNB Chain's Pasteur Hard Fork Set to Activate August 25 with Infrastructure Upgrades
BNB Smart Chain is set to activate its Pasteur hard fork on August 25 at 02:30 UTC, introducing several network changes aimed at strengthening the infrastructure around cross-chain movement and improving performance. The upgrade includes BEP-682 for bridge verification, which focuses on securing bridge-related activity, a major attack surface in crypto.
BEP-695 introduces validator governance changes, determining how network operators participate in decisions and affecting decentralization, upgrade coordination, and long-term network control. Validator governance may feel distant to users but shapes the network's resilience.
The third key change is BEP-675, targeting block processing capacity, which affects throughput, reliability, and network responsiveness. BNB Chain handles high transaction activity, making performance upgrades crucial for supporting more applications, users, and transactions types.
Node operators must update to version 1.7.7 and remove the EnableBAL setting by August 25. Scheduled hard forks are communicated in advance to ensure coordination among validators, node operators, exchanges, wallets, developers, and infrastructure providers to avoid service disruptions.
