BNB Chain's Pasteur Hardfork Activated Amid Binance's Sanctions-Driven Block
The BNB Chain is preparing for a significant upgrade called the Pasteur hardfork, set to activate on August 25. This update aims to further utilize the network's speed, which was previously increased through earlier upgrades like Fermi and Osaka/Mendel. The new hardfork will allow the BNB Chain to handle more transactions within the same time window while addressing weaknesses in validator power and network security.
The Pasteur upgrade includes three key proposals: BEP-682, BEP-695, and BEP-675. BEP-682 strengthens bridge checks by preventing duplicate validators from being counted multiple times when signatures are verified. BEP-695 addresses validator key changes, ensuring that previous keys no longer retain voting power once replaced. The most significant capacity change comes from BEP-675, which reduces the time spent executing transactions before validation.
Meanwhile, Binance has blocked transactions with 16 crypto platforms following new US and EU sanctions. This move is in line with regulatory actions taken against Shelbit and Aban Tether for Iran-linked flows and the European Union's 21st Russia sanctions package. Affected platforms include Rapira, Aifory Pro, ABCeX, WhiteBird, NoOnecrypto, Tradex, Monease, BitPapa, Exnode, HTX, EXMO Ltd., and others.
