BNB Chain's Pasteur Upgrade Sets Stage for 90M Gas Limit Scaling

The BNB Chain's Pasteur hard fork has successfully boosted block gas capacity by 28% under live mainnet conditions. This upgrade, activated on August 25, 2026, is powered by BEP-675 and removes redundant Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) execution steps.

This streamlined process enables builders to submit fully executed blocks, or BidBlocks, to validators, reducing duplicated work and leaving more room for actual transaction processing. As a result, blocks using the new BidBlock V2 format have averaged 28% more gas compared to the previous Bid V1 format.

The rapid adoption of BEP-675 has been swift, with approximately 98% of all blocks produced on BSC during a three-day observation period ending September 1, 2026, being built using the new BidBlock V2 format. The network plans to incrementally raise its gas limit from 55 million to 90 million based on mainnet performance data.
