BNB Smart Chain Activates Pasteur Hardfork on August 25
The BNB Smart Chain will undergo a hardfork on August 25, 2026, at 02:30 UTC. This is not a contentious hardfork that splits the chain into two branches, but rather a planned network upgrade called Pasteur.
Pasteur bundles two improvement proposals, BEP-682 and BEP-695, which aim to make the bridge between the old Beacon Chain and the Smart Chain more secure. This will close a gap that could theoretically be abused for an attack on assets in the network.
For BNB holders, there is nothing to do with their coins themselves. The chain switches to the new software automatically, and wallets will show the same balance afterwards. However, users should plan ahead if they want to make a deposit or withdrawal on a centralized exchange or start a BEP20 transfer.
