BNB Smart Chain's Pasteur Hardfork Set for August 25
The BNB Smart Chain is set to undergo a hardfork called Pasteur on August 25, 2026, at approximately 02:30 UTC. This change will not affect users' balances or addresses but will improve the security of the chain by closing a potential vulnerability in the bridge between the Beacon Chain and the Smart Chain.
The fork will implement two improvement proposals, BEP-682 and BEP-695, which will enhance the security of the chain. These changes are invisible to users in everyday terms but provide critical protection against certain types of attacks.
For users holding BNB on a centralized exchange, such as Binance, there is no need to take action regarding their coins themselves. However, deposits and withdrawals for all BEP20 tokens will be temporarily paused around the time of the fork.
