Bogus Copyright Claims Target WCMU's Reporting on UP Bitcoin Mine and Congressional Candidate
WCMU Public Media recently found itself at the center of a controversy involving bogus copyright claims against its reporting on a bitcoin mine and a congressional candidate. The newsroom's articles were temporarily removed from Google search results after several false claims were filed.
The affected stories reported on Michael Carbonara, whose name appears on the permit application for the data center operation in Dafter Township, Michigan. The facility is located across the street from Lake Superior Academy and consists of three containerized data centers.
Attorney Karen Post with Trister, Ross, Schadler & Gold, PLLC, who filed an appeal with Google on WCMU's behalf, stated that she couldn't find any evidence of copied content. The whole situation seemed suspicious to her.
