Bonk Governance Attack Sparks Long-Term Concerns for Investor Confidence
Bonk, a meme token based on the Solana network, has recently faced a governance attack that compromised its DAO treasury. On July 6, 2026, an attacker spent around $4.4 million to acquire voting power and pass a malicious proposal, transferring approximately 4.43 trillion BONK tokens worth $20-21 million from the DAO treasury to their wallet.
The attack exploited low voter turnout and BONKDAO's instant-execution governance model, which lacks safeguards such as higher quorum requirements or delayed proposal execution. This creates a unique category of risk that affects long-term investor confidence in BONK.
Despite the volatility of meme tokens, BONK has maintained relatively stable trading volume at around $23.8 million and is available across over 800 trading markets, supporting its liquidity. However, its current price range suggests it has entered a consolidation phase rather than a strong uptrend or decline.
