BounceBit Token Utility Rendered Useless After Massive Authorization Flaw
BounceBit's token utility has been rendered useless after an authorization flaw exposed nearly 286.5 million tokens, prompting the company to shut down its standalone Layer 1 and reissue the BB token on BNB Chain.
The incident occurred due to a protocol-level authorization logic inherited from the Evmos stack, which allowed a caller to identify another account as the funding source without the required approval. Private keys, signatures, and wallets remained uncompromised.
BounceBit is offering a 1:1 reconstruction of balances for holders, but the larger consequence is the loss of token utility. The previous gas, staking, rewards, and governance roles belonged to a network that will not return.
