Boyaa Interactive Posts $103M Loss Amid Cryptocurrency Price Volatility
Hong Kong-listed gaming company Boyaa Interactive reported a first-half net loss of approximately HK$792 million (US$103 million) due to the decline in Bitcoin's price. The company, which holds Bitcoin on its balance sheet, saw its revenue increase by 16.05% year-on-year to HK$258 million.
The drop in Bitcoin prices from around $42,000 at the start of 2024 to below $30,000 by mid-year directly impacted Boyaa's mark-to-market valuation of its crypto holdings, leading to the substantial reported loss.
Despite this, Boyaa's core gaming business showed resilience, with revenue growth indicating a solid operational performance. This divergence between operating income and net profitability highlights the challenges companies face when integrating volatile assets into their treasury strategies.
