Brandt's Bitcoin Forecast Comes Under Review as Price Surges Past $80,000
Bitcoin's recent surge has brought it close to $80,000, prompting a re-evaluation of Peter Brandt's forecast that the price could reach $58,000 to $62,000. In January, Brandt predicted this range, but also acknowledged he could be wrong.
The market did move in a way similar to his scenario at first, with Bitcoin trading sideways for several months in the $58,000 to $62,000 range after falling to $57,717 on July 1. However, the recent rebound has flipped the trend, and Bitcoin has risen sharply over the last five trading days.
Brandt attributed his earlier bearish view to an inverse head-and-shoulders pattern in Bitcoin's price chart, but later changed his stance after buying at the breakout zone. He also revisited a 'price barrier' from 2021, which he said is now becoming a baseline for market judgment.
The recent surge has been driven more by short covering than chase buying, meaning that traders who had bet on a decline are closing their positions rather than new bullish bets inflowing into the market. This makes it necessary to watch further to see whether the recent surge leads to a medium- to long-term trend change.
