Brazil Cracks Down on Crypto Threats with Real-Time Alert System
The Central Bank of Brazil is working to prevent cyber threats in the cryptocurrency space by implementing an alert system for banks and national exchanges. In partnership with Hypernative, the bank has developed a tool that identifies, processes, responds to, and mitigates cyberattacks using cryptocurrency as an exit rail.
The system was tested with unreported market participants and will begin integration within the next two weeks, with entities receiving and redistributing alerts from the Central Bank of Brazil. This move comes after a significant exploit in July 2025, where cybercriminals stole $180 million and cashed out using bitcoin and USDT via exchanges.
The system is designed to address concerns around fund traceability when assets exit traditional finance rails and enter the crypto sector. According to Regina Pedroso, executive director of the Brazilian Tokenization Association (ABToken), the main challenge now is to implement the tool, which has already been tested by the Central Bank and issued some bulletins.
