Brazil Crypto Market Contracts Amid Tightened Licensing Rules

Share

The crypto market in Brazil is bracing for a sharp contraction as companies scramble to comply with new licensing rules. According to estimates, fewer than 10% of virtual asset service providers plan to seek Central Bank authorization before the October 30 deadline.

This represents a significant pullback from the industry's growth until recently, which operated with relatively less oversight. The new regulations have introduced capital requirements ranging from R$10.8 million to R$37.2 million, alongside strict governance, audit, and compliance rules.

Firms such as Bitnuvem, NovaDAX, Digitra.com, and Coinext have already closed or restructured their operations due to the new regulatory environment. Only 20-25 firms are expected to apply for a license, with roughly 10 projected to secure authorization as virtual asset service providers.

The consequences of missing the deadline are severe: companies must shut down operations within 30 days. This has led to a wave of closures and mergers in the market, with some industry sources predicting additional restructuring announcements before the transition period closes.
