Brazil Introduces 24-Hour Delay on Large Cryptocurrency Transfers
Brazil is introducing new regulations on digital asset transfers, with transactions over $10,000 facing a delay of up to 24 hours. The Central Bank of Brazil aims to combat fraud and money laundering in the cryptocurrency market.
The new rules will come into effect in 2027 and apply to both domestic and international transactions involving virtual asset service providers (VASPs) and self-custody wallets.
According to the Central Bank, the regulation is a response to the increased use of digital currencies by fraudsters. The temporary delay will give compliance departments more time to analyze transactions and verify their legitimacy.
