Brazil Orders 24-Hour Hold on Cryptocurrency Transfers Above $10,000
Brazil's central bank has introduced new anti-fraud measures for crypto transactions. Starting January 1, 2027, virtual asset service providers will be required to hold certain transfers for up to 24 hours.
The rule applies to qualifying transfers above $10,000 destined for foreign crypto providers or self-custody wallets. This includes both individual transactions and combined transactions from the same customer within a day.
Providers may release transfers early if they complete their risk review under parameters established by the regulator. However, they must notify customers when a transfer is being held, and maintain records of fraud incidents, attempted fraud, and corrective measures taken.
