Brazil Sees Record Crypto Purchases Amid Dollar Volatility

Share

Brazil's central bank has released data showing a significant surge in cryptocurrency and stablecoin purchases during the first half of 2025. According to the figures, crypto purchases reached $14.68 billion between January and June, a 135% increase from the same period last year.

The growth was particularly notable in June, when purchases hit $2.54 billion, up from $1.48 billion in June 2024. Stablecoin purchases also reached record levels, totaling approximately $2.632 billion in May, a 158% year-over-year increase.

The Brazilian real's volatility against the dollar has prompted individuals and businesses to seek alternatives that offer stability, with stablecoins providing a digital safe haven without price swings. Brazil's relatively progressive regulatory environment for digital assets, including guidelines for crypto investment funds and exploration of a central bank digital currency (CBDC), have helped legitimize the sector.
