Brazil Suspends Pro-Bitcoin Candidate's Campaign Over Election Rule Violations

Brazil's top electoral court has suspended Renan Santos's digital campaign for president and frozen R$3.3 million in public funds, citing violations of election rules.

The ruling, issued by Justice Dias Toffoli on August 31, halts new disbursements from the Special Campaign Financing Fund (FEFC) and bars Santos and his running mate Aroldo Medina from debates and radio, television, and podcast appearances.

Santos had made headlines for pledging to create a national Bitcoin reserve and scrap Brazil's Tax on Financial Operations if elected. He called the ruling against his campaign 'censorship' and vowed to seek an injunction from TSE president Nunes Marques.
