Brazil Takes Lead in Crypto Regulation, Says CertiK
CertiK and Coins.ph highlighted Brazil's emerging regulatory environment for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) in a recent fireside chat. Jason Jiang, Chief Business Officer of CertiK, and Daniel Hott, Head of Legal & Compliance at Coins.xyz, discussed how prepared operators are separating themselves from unprepared ones under the new framework.
Jiang emphasized that compliance is not just about checking boxes, but rather it's a choice for companies to get on the regulated track. He added that Brazil's Central Bank has done a great job of providing clear guidelines for institutions.
The conversation also touched on the importance of open communication between regulators, operators, and security providers. Jiang praised the Brazilian Central Bank for being easily accessible and responsive to industry needs. He noted that about 70% of large institutions have some digital asset developments within their companies, which is a positive sign.
Jiang outlined a four-point framework for global companies entering regulated markets like Brazil: compliance with local regulation, building infrastructure, on-chain monitoring, and having operational security (OpSec) procedures. He also stressed the need to build consumer confidence in these new markets.
