Brazilian Crypto Demand Drops by Almost 80% After Regulatory Crackdown
According to statistics from the Brazilian Central Bank (BC), the demand for cryptocurrencies in foreign markets plummeted by almost 80% in July, following a tightening of regulations by the BC.
The bank's data shows that the rubric of cryptocurrencies with corresponding liabilities summed up to $571.5 million in July 2026, down from $1.37 billion in July 2025, representing a 58.4% annual decline.
Fernando Rocha, chief of the BC's Department of Statistics, stated that this account had been running above $2 billion per month in the first half of the year and reached $2.6 billion in June. However, it dropped to $572 million in July, a decrease of nearly 80%.
Rocha attributed the decline in transactions to the intensified regulation and supervision by the BC on this sector.
