Brazilian Crypto Demand Surges to $14.68 Billion in First Half of the Year
The Central Bank of Brazil has released data showing that in the first half of this year, the demand for crypto assets reached $14.68 billion. This represents a significant increase of 135% compared to the same period last year, when the purchase volume was $6.24 billion.
The data covers transactions involving Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins processed by registered Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP). In June, the purchase volume of crypto assets in Brazil reached $2.54 billion, surpassing the $1.48 billion recorded in June 2025. Stablecoin purchases were particularly strong in May, with a volume of nearly $2.632 billion, representing an increase of 158% compared to the same month last year.
The head of statistics at the Central Bank of Brazil, Fernando Rocha, stated that USD-pegged stablecoins are driving demand growth, with their share exceeding 90%. These stablecoins can be used for payments and cross-border settlements. The Central Bank has classified VASPs as Class 3, and from January 2027, related institutions will be required to comply with the same rules as securities brokers, securities distributors, and foreign exchange brokerage firms.
