Brazil's Central Bank Delays Large Crypto Transfers Abroad Amid Financial Fraud Fears
Brazil's central bank has introduced new rules to combat financial fraud in the cryptocurrency market. Effective January 1, 2027, crypto exchanges will be required to delay certain transfers for up to 24 hours.
The rule applies when a customer deposits fiat currency or cryptocurrencies with an exchange and then attempts to send funds abroad or to a self-custody wallet. Transfers exceeding $10,000 in value are subject to the delay, as well as smaller transactions flagged as risky by exchanges.
The central bank cited concerns over the use of cryptocurrencies for financial fraud, stating that victims or institutions may not be able to recover funds before they are transferred abroad.
