Brazil's Central Bank Introduces New Crypto Transfer Rule with $10,000 Delay Threshold
The Brazilian central bank has announced new crypto transfer rules that could delay certain transactions above $10,000 for up to 24 hours. The measures target transfers sent to overseas virtual asset service providers and self-custody wallets.
According to the central bank, the rule aims to address the sudden movement of fraud proceeds through virtual assets, including stablecoins. Transactions that meet the limit may face a temporary delay while financial institutions conduct additional checks.
The central bank has set 2027 as the starting point for the new requirements, giving financial institutions and crypto platforms time to amend their auditing systems.
