Brazil's Crypto Demand Hits $14.68B as Stablecoins Dominate
The Central Bank of Brazil has released statistics showing that demand for cryptocurrency assets in the country has surged to $14.68 billion during the first half of 2026, a 135% increase from the same period last year.
This growth is largely driven by dollar-pegged stablecoins, which account for over 90% of the demand and are being used as proxies for payments and cross-border settlements.
The central bank's Head of Statistics Department, Fernando Rocha, noted that this trend indicates consolidation in the national crypto market, which has already gone through its initial phase.
Rocha also mentioned that starting next year, the institution will have a more complete view of the cryptocurrency ecosystem due to a new regulatory regime that treats virtual asset providers like securities firms.
