Brazil's Crypto Market Booms with $14.68B in Stablecoin Purchases
The crypto market in Brazil has seen significant growth, with Brazilians purchasing $14.68 billion worth of cryptocurrency assets in the first half of 2026, a 135% increase from the same period last year.
This surge in demand is largely driven by stablecoin purchases, which reached $2.632 billion in May 2026, a 158% increase compared to the previous year.
The growth in Brazil's crypto market has not gone unnoticed by regulatory bodies, with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) calling for tighter regulations to address growing cross-border stablecoin flows.
In Argentina, banking groups are quietly building peso-pegged stablecoins for institutional clients, with two major holding groups developing their own stablecoins through subsidiaries and partnerships.
