Brewery Harnesses Solar Power for Bitcoin Mining

A brewery on Australia's Central Coast has tapped into an innovative way to generate income and reduce energy costs by using surplus rooftop solar power for Bitcoin mining.

Hawkesbury Brewing Co in Lisarow installed 16 Bitcoin mining computers that only operate when the brewery generates more electricity than it needs. The equipment runs without additional operating costs, producing around $2,000 each month, which helps offset site power bills.

The brewery captures heat from the mining equipment and transfers it into its water system using a heat exchanger, providing hot water for brewing and bottle washing. This approach supports production of approximately 100,000 litres of beer every month.
