BRICS Summit Provides Opportunity for Improved China-India Relations
Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India for the 18th BRICS Summit has been seen as an opportunity for improved bilateral relations, according to Chinese journalist Ren Yan. The summit is being hosted by India and marks the country's turn as chair of the group.
Ren Yan stated that China and India can work together and support each other as 'good neighbours' and that the BRICS grouping has provided a platform for Global South countries to strengthen cooperation across several sectors, including finance. He also mentioned that the summit comes at a time when both countries are looking to expand their membership and networks of developing partners.
The Chinese President's entourage includes Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee. Xi Jinping is expected to advance proposals on Global South cooperation at the BRICS summit.
China's Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, stated that Beijing intends to follow the framework established by both heads of state, adding that China will work with India to act on the strategic guidance of the two leaders and handle bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective.
