Brit Man Recovers $3.86M Bitcoin Holding After Over Decade-Long Struggle
A British man has recovered his entire Bitcoin holding of 61 coins worth $3.86 million after over a decade of inaccessibility.
The man, identified as Chris, had purchased the coins through Britcoin, one of the UK's first Bitcoin exchanges, in December 2011 for £1,500 or approximately $2,000 at the time.
Chris's holding was then worth roughly £4,000. The platform, later incorporated as Intersango Ltd., had attracted thousands of users but ran into difficulty from late 2012 and eventually shut down in 2014, leaving customers without access to their funds.
Celebrating his good fortune, Chris said that he is 'unused to sums of this size' and plans to use part of the proceeds to buy a larger house that can accommodate a family member with disabilities. He also intends to keep most of the Bitcoin.
