Broadcom Secures Multi-Year AI Chip Deals with OpenAI, Google, and Meta
Broadcom has secured multi-year agreements with OpenAI, Google, and Meta to develop custom AI accelerators. The deals cover significant capacity, with combined development measured in gigawatts.
The partnerships position Broadcom as a critical alternative to Nvidia in the custom silicon market, offering hyperscalers hardware tailored precisely to their workloads.
The OpenAI partnership centers on the co-development of 10 GW of custom AI accelerators. The Google deal covers the development and supply of custom Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and networking components, while the Meta collaboration focuses on its in-house chip program, the MTIA.
These deals are designed to complement existing Nvidia hardware, which is used for general training workloads. Most hyperscalers run mixed environments, using Nvidia GPUs for general training workloads and custom chips for specific inference or specialized tasks.
