BTC Options Expiration: Market Bias Tilted Lower Amid Consolidation
A significant event in the Bitcoin options market has occurred as 32,000 BTC options expired on August 7. This comes at a time when the price of Bitcoin has been oscillating around the $64K zone for over two months. The put-call ratio was 0.26, indicating a slight bias towards calls. Notional value of these expiring contracts totals $2.06 billion.
The expiration coincides with the area above $65K, where heavy volume from an earlier advance is present. Absent fresh speculative flows, the bias leans lower. The price has been consolidating in this range since May, reminiscent of a similar period between February and April that preceded a 30 percent rally.
The current chart structure shows Bitcoin trading at $64,504 on the 4-hour time frame. It is within a bullish framework defined by its EMA50 at $64,077 and EMA200 at $63,642. However, the MACD indicator has formed a death cross at 200.35, while RSI sits neutral at 56.46. The price is pressing against the upper Bollinger band at $64,935, suggesting a measured pullback toward the 50-EMA support at $64,077 before any sustained continuation.
