$BTC Price Rally Driven by Derivatives Market and Regulatory Support
The Bitcoin price has surged by over 14% in just three days, pushing against its 200-day EMA and causing a ripple effect across the altcoin market. The rally began on August 17, when the price was at $62,821, and continued until August 20, where it reached $72,071.
The catalyst for this increase appears to be the derivatives market, where short sellers were caught off guard by the sudden surge in prices. According to CoinGlass data, total crypto liquidations reached $3.30 billion over the latest 24-hour period, as leveraged bearish positions were forced to close out.
The timing of this rally also coincides with a more supportive regulatory backdrop. On August 19, President Trump hosted crypto executives at the White House and pushed Congress to accelerate passage of the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide clearer crypto jurisdiction and create a more defined framework for institutional participation.
However, while the technical picture has improved, with both MACD and AO histogram showing signs of improving momentum, there are still concerns about overheating. The RSI is currently at 79.41, firmly in overheated territory, suggesting that the rally may need a breather soon.
