BTC Price Tumbles as Geopolitical Uncertainty Weighs on Risk Sentiment
Bitcoin's price has fallen over 3% this week to around $62,900 amid geopolitical uncertainty and cautious institutional demand. The US-Iran standoff continues to weigh on risk sentiment, with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent saying that the United States will apply measures 'never seen' on Iran. This tension keeps the war-risk premium in play, supports the US Dollar (USD), and dampens risk appetite for BTC.
Despite softer US inflation data, which gave the Federal Reserve more room to keep interest rates steady, Bitcoin's price has failed to lift. Institutional demand for BTC ETFs has actually declined, with spot funds recording an outflow of $332.02 million through Thursday.
Simon-Peter Massabni, Head of Business Development at XS.com, remains cautiously bullish on Bitcoin, expecting it to finish August in the $68,000-$72,000 range, with a base-case target of around $70,000. However, he does not anticipate a straight-line rally, instead expecting continued volatility with a gradual recovery bias.
