BTC Soars Above $64K Amid Reports of Strait of Hormuz Deal
Bitcoin's price has recovered to above $64,000 after dipping to $62,200, likely due to market expectations surrounding a potential deal between the US, Iran, and Oman to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
A report from Axios suggests that an interim agreement is being finalized to allow for the safe passage of ships through the strategic waterway. According to the report, inbound traffic would be directed through the northern lane controlled by Iran, while outbound traffic would pass through the southern lane in Omani waters.
The deal reportedly includes a 60-day fee-free period, during which neither side will charge tolls or fees for ship passage. This is a concession from Iran's previous demand to charge $2 million per ship, possibly paid in Bitcoin. The parties are also working on clearing naval mines from the median lane.
The market appears to be pricing in this positive development, with Bitcoin gaining over $2,000 since its local low at $62,200. However, it's likely that a permanent deal will need to be reached for the breakout attempt to be validated.
