BTC Whales Reach Record Unrealized Profit Levels Amid Consolidation
Bitcoin's short-term holder whales have reached an all-time high in unrealized profits, sparking concerns about potential selling pressure on the market. According to CryptoQuant contributor IT Tech, the record level of $9.07 billion was reached on September 4, with four other instances occurring within the past two weeks.
The highest recorded unrealized profit levels among short-term holder whales raise questions about their behavior in response to a potential price pullback. Historically, this group has been quick to take profits when opportunities emerge.
Meanwhile, long-term Bitcoin holders have also become more active during the recent consolidation period. CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost noted that activity among holders who have held for more than five years has increased, with a 90-day moving average of spent transaction outputs (STXOs) climbing to 1,500 BTC.
The increase in on-chain activity suggests that long-term holders may be repositioning their assets or taking profits. However, Darkfost cautioned against interpreting this as evidence that these investors are necessarily selling, citing the recent Coldcard episode as a possible reason for moving holdings to more secure storage.
