Bursa Malaysia Soars on Oil Price Spike, Crypto Market Sees Gains
Bursa Malaysia closed higher on September 14, 2026, driven by rising oil prices that boosted sectors linked to commodities. The index gained 11.27 points, or 0.66 per cent, to close at 1,698.01 points.
This trend mirrors the June-July oil price spike, when the index outperformed regional markets amid external volatility. As a result, defensive and commodity-linked sectors such as plantations, healthcare, and petrochemicals saw significant gains.
In contrast to the local market, the ringgit fell against the US dollar to 4.0750. The cryptocurrency market also experienced changes, with Bitcoin rising to RM313,871, Ethereum reaching RM10,158, and Solana up at RM411.
