Buterin Bets Against 50% BTC Crash, Says Network Can Adapt
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is pushing back against AI-driven forecasts that predict a 50% crash in Bitcoin's value within two years. Commentator Liron Shapira assigned a 50% probability to this scenario, arguing that artificial intelligence could undermine the security assumptions protecting the network.
However, Buterin disagrees and claims that roughly 90% of his net worth is already exposed to this view through his existing crypto holdings.
The debate centers on whether increasingly capable AI systems could compromise Bitcoin's security. Shapira did not identify a specific attack vector, but Buterin believes that the network can adapt to problems without requiring broad social consensus.
He argues that the possibility of core hashes or proof-of-work being broken is extremely small and that software changes can be made when vulnerabilities emerge. The difficulty lies in transition risk, getting a decentralized network safely from one security standard to another.
