Buterin Condemns Russia's Invasion of Ukraine: 'Criminal Aggression' Must End

Russian-born Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has published a lengthy post on X, expressing his unwavering support for Ukraine and condemning Russia's actions as 'criminal aggression'.

The post comes ahead of the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022. Buterin, who was born in Russia but raised in Canada, acknowledged that Western nations had made mistakes in the past, but argued that these grievances cannot justify Russia's actions.

Buterin pointed to specific events as evidence that the war's aims went far beyond protecting Donbas: the attack on the Mariupol theater, the killings in Bucha, strikes on hospitals, and what he called 'human safari' in Kherson over the past three years. He also cited an article published by state news agency RIA Novosti in February 2022, which revealed Russia's true intentions when it believed it had already won.

In addition to condemning Russia's actions, Buterin also criticized the Russian opposition for their stalemate and lack of new ideas. He argued that new voices and new ideas are needed, and that the opposition's current leadership structure prevents them from emerging.
