Buterin Disagrees: Bitcoin Won't Crash 50% Due to AI Threats
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is optimistic about the future of cryptocurrency security, countering predictions that AI threats could lead to a 50% Bitcoin price crash within two years.
In response to a post by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Liron Shapira, who warned that AI could undermine Bitcoin's security and trigger a significant price drop, Buterin expressed his opposition. He attributed his optimism to his confidence in long-term cybersecurity improvements and Bitcoin's ability to handle issues not requiring social consensus.
This disagreement comes amidst growing concerns about the potential threats posed by AI to cryptocurrency security. In May, Buterin backed 'Formal Verification,' an AI-powered solution designed to combat these threats. However, AI safety researcher Roman Yampolskiy warned that advanced AI systems could become 'really amazing hackers,' making it nearly impossible for individuals to keep their Bitcoin secure.
