Buterin Doubts AI Forecast of 50% BTC Crash Risk

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has pushed back against AI-driven forecasts that assign a high probability to Bitcoin's value plummeting more than 50% in two years. Liron Shapira, an AI-risk commentator, believes there is a 50% chance that artificial intelligence will compromise the network's security, causing such a decline.

Buterin disagreed with this assessment, stating that roughly 90% of his net worth is already exposed to the potential outcome through his existing crypto holdings. This means he has a significant stake in Bitcoin's ability to adapt and respond to any emerging threats.

The debate centers on whether increasingly capable AI systems can compromise Bitcoin's security model, which relies on software changes that require broad social consensus. Buterin argues that Bitcoin should be able to respond to problems without such consensus, citing the possibility of client or mining-pool changes.
