Buterin Fires Back at AI Doomsday Prediction for Bitcoin
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has shot down predictions that artificial intelligence could crash Bitcoin's price by over 50% within two years. Angel investor Liron Shapira had made the claim with 50% confidence, citing the potential for AI to compromise proof-of-work security.
Buterin countered that the probability of this happening is 'extremely low', pointing out that SHA-256 hashing has been scrutinized by cryptographers for decades and would not just threaten Bitcoin but also most modern internet security systems.
Buterin's argument went beyond mere defense, however. He believes AI can be both a risk and an opportunity for blockchain security, particularly through the use of AI-assisted formal verification to mathematically prove code behavior.
