Buterin Proposes EIP-8288: Recursive STARKs to Reduce Quantum Signature Costs
Vitalik Buterin has introduced an improvement proposal called EIP-8288, which aims to reduce the cost of quantum-resistant signatures and STARKs on the Ethereum network. According to Buterin, this proposal is a crucial step towards achieving extreme power in the future.
EIP-8288 proposes the use of recursive STARKs, a type of cryptographic proof that can verify multiple signatures or STARKs simultaneously. This would significantly reduce the amount of data and gas required for on-chain verification.
The proposal also addresses the issue of quantum resistance, which is becoming increasingly important as the development of powerful quantum computers accelerates. Buterin notes that existing signature schemes will be vulnerable to attacks from these machines.
