Buterin Pushes for Quantum-Safe Transaction Cost Cuts via EIP-8288
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is pushing for a proposal to slash the cost of quantum-safe private transactions on the network. The plan, known as EIP-8288, would bundle quantum-resistant signatures and STARK proofs into a single proof per Ethereum block.
The current cost of making private transactions quantum-safe is around 10 million gas, but under EIP-8288, this could fall to tens of thousands. Buterin hopes to see the proposal included in the network's future upgrade, I-star, which would follow the Hegota fork.
The idea relies on recursive STARK mempools and has been built on the previous transaction overhaul, Frames, which was promoted by Buterin last Sunday. The Frames plan itself is unscheduled but also aims to be included in the I-star upgrade.
