Buterin Puts 90% of Net Worth Against AI-Driven Bitcoin Crash
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, made a bold statement about his financial position regarding an AI-driven Bitcoin crash. He said that approximately 90% of his net worth is against the prediction made by Liron Shapira, a Silicon Valley investor and host of the Doom Debates podcast.
Shapira had stated he has 50% confidence that Bitcoin will lose more than half its value within two years due to AI systems potentially undermining security guarantees. Buterin responded with a three-part technical argument and emphasized that his position is not just about Bitcoin, but also applies to Ethereum and other cryptographic networks.
The entrepreneur framed his financial exposure as a high-stakes vote of confidence in crypto's ability to upgrade before technology breaks it. His stance suggests that decentralized networks can adapt quickly enough when the threat is technological rather than financial, with transition risk being the genuine challenge.
